UNLV Downs South Carolina, 66-63 in WBCA BTI Classic

Nov. 15, 2004

SEATTLE - Sheena Moore scored 22 points and RanDee Henry added a double-double 12 points and 11 rebounds as UNLV rallied from 10 points down for a 66-63 victory over South Carolina at the WBCA BTI Classic in Seattle.

Lauren Simms led all South Carolina scorers for the second-straight night, finishing with 21 points.

Tournament host Washington (1-0, 0-0) meets No. 14 Minnesota (1-0, 0-0) in the second game Monday night. The Huskies came from behind for a 65-53 victory over the Gamecocks in first-round action Sunday, while Minnesota held off UNLV, 77-69.

UNLV trailed by as many as 10 points midway through the first half, before embarking on a 21-11 run to halftime to tie the score at 32-32. The Gamecocks, who saw a nine-point lead erased by Washington in Sunday's loss, kept the game close for much of the second half before a 12-4 Rebels run put the 2004 WNIT finalists ahead, 58-49, with just over five minutes to play.

A furious South Carolina rally, however, led by freshman forward Lakesha Tolliver, cut the lead to one with just 28 seconds remaining. Tolliver scored four points of the Gamecocks' first six points in the run, with Sarah Burgess providing the final basket off a steal at midcourt.

A quick foul resulted in two free throws for Moore, who converted both to provide the final margin. South Carolina hurried the ball upcourt and called a timeout to set a three-point play, but Sarah Burgess' last-second three-point attempt missed its mark.

UNLV hosts Central Florida in its home-opener Nov. 19, while the Gamecocks return home for an exhibition contest with Everyone's Internet the same day.
