UW Drops Final Match Play Contest to Wake Forest

Howie-in-the-Hills, FL - The fourth-seeded Washington women's golf team lost to 11th-seeded Wake Forest 2-2-1 in the final consolation round of the National Collegiate Match Play Championships, Tuesday at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills, Florida.

Paige Mackenzie and Kim Shin picked up wins for Washington while Amber Prange halved her match. Wake Forest was awarded the victory based on the total number of holes won.

Mackenzie defeated Ashley Hoagland 4 and 3 while Shin was victorious against Mandy Goins 4 and 2. UW's Sung Ea Lee was defeated by Christine Hallstrom 1 up while Amy Wang lost her match with Laura Crawford 2 and 1.

In the championship final, top-seeded Duke downed third-seeded Arizona State 4-1.

Washington defeated Purdue in the first round of the tournament before losing to Arizona to fall into the consolation bracket. The Huskies downed Furman before falling to Wake Forest to finish the tournament with a 2-2 mark.

The National Collegiate Match Play was the final tournament of the fall season for the Huskies.
