Women's Golf Finishes Second at Match Play Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Arizona State women's golf team finished second at the second annual Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship, held Nov. 14-16 at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort.

The third-seeded Sun Devils fell to top-seeded Duke 4-1 in Tuesday's championship round. Freshman Louise Stahle lost to Duke's Brittany Lang 2 up, while senior Erin Tone and sophomore Tiffany Tavee lost their matches, 4 and 3. Junior Alissa Kuczka fell to Jennifer Pandolfi 3 and 2, while freshman Charmaine Erasmus won her match by forfeit.

In the third-place match, Arizona outlasted Oklahoma State 3-2. In the other consolation matches, New Mexico defeated UNLV and Washington beat Wake Forest.

The Match Play Championship wraps up the Sun Devils' fall season. ASU turned in top five finishes in all five of its fall tournaments, including victories at the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate and the Stanford/Pepsi Intercollegiate. The Sun Devils return to action in the spring, traveling to Palos Verdes, Calif., for the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge on February 7-9.
