Women's Cross Country Places 14th At NCAA Regionals

Iryna Vashchuk ran 21:02 to place 11th at the 2004 NCAA Cross Country Western Regional at Fresno State on Saturday (Nov. 13), earning her an individual automatic qualification into the 2004 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Nov. 22.

USC placed 14th overall at the Western Regional, but did not advance as a team to the NCAA championship.

The NCAA meet, hosted by Indiana State, will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, Terre Haute, Ind. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. ET.

Vashchuk, a senior from Kieve, Ukraine, finished 35th at last year's NCAA championship meet.

USC's next best finisher at the Western Regional was sophomore Kristen Berglas, was was 56th in in 22:11. Other Women of Troy finishers were freshman Kristin Kovacich (87th, 22:44), sophomore Kate Pinta (133rd, 23:35), soph Christina Eads (145th, 23:48) and senior Harlye Maya (157th, 24:12).
