Husky Gymnastics Team Signs Four

Seattle -- Four top club level gymnasts have signed national letters of intent and will compete for the Washington gymnastics team. The group includes Kelly Gilbert from Phoenix, Ariz., Amanda Gering from Leduc, Alberta, Ashley Houghting from Welland, Ontario and Kristen Omori from Kirkland, Wash.

Gilbert competes for coach Geoff Eaton at Desert Devils, the same club team that produced current Husky Chelsea Bakken and former Huskies Christina Pelaez, Stacy Connelly, Amber Erdos and Tiffany Simpson. Gilbert was the Junior Olympic National Champion on the balance beam and was Arizona State Champion and Regional Champion on various other events.from Kirkland, Wash.

Gering competes for Ortona where she is coached by Olivier Cremer and Isabelle Jadoul-Cremer. She was a gold medalist at the Millenium Games and a member of the Pacific Alliance Team. Gering was seventh all-around at the 2003 Senior Canadian National Championships and 12th all-around at the 2003 World Trials.from Kirkland, Wash.

Houghting competes for Sport Seneca and is coached by Carol-Angela Orchard. She was a member of the 2004 National Champion Open Team after previously competing as a Senior High Performance athlete. Houghting placed fourth in the all-around and was first on the vault at the 2004 Canadian Championships in the National Open division. As a senior high performance athlete, she placed 15th in the all-around in 2003 and ninth all-around and sixth on the vault and uneven bars in 2002.from Kirkland, Wash.

Omori, from Juanita High in Kirkland, competes for the Northwest Aerials and coach Deni Maxwell. Omori was a Level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals qualifier in 2004.
