Pac-10 All-Academic Honors Roll In For Six Huskies

Nov. 18, 2004

WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. -- Six Washington men's soccer players were named to the 2004 Pac-10 All-Academic team, conference commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. The Huskies had three first-team selections including senior defender Joe Birklid, junior goalkeeper Chris Eylander and sophomore forward Kevin Forrest.

It was a day of accolades for Washington, especially for Eylander and Forrest who in addition to their nod to the Pac-10 All-Academic first-team, they were named to the All-Pac-10 first-team today as well. Only one other player in the conference earned both distinctions, Calen Carr a junior forward from California. Birklid, Eylander and Forrest were also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII first-team earlier this month. Birklid has a 3.67 GPA and is majoring in English, Eylander has a 3.58 GPA and is majoring in engineering, and Forrest has a 3.58 GPA with an undeclared major.

Also earning recognition for Washington were senior forward Casey Armstrong and sophomore defender Ty Harden, being named to the All-Academic second-team. Junior midfielder Jeff Hoover was named to the academic honorable mention team. Armstrong, Harden and Hoover also earned All-Pac-10 acclaim, Harden on the second-team and Armstrong and Hoover on the honorable mention squad. Armstrong has a 3.19 GPA and is majoring in business administration and Harden has a 3.44 GPA with an undecided major.

Seniors Birklid and Armstrong have been named to the Pac-10 All-Academic team three-straight years.

Washington hosts Portland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Friday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. at Husky Soccer Field.
