Wendell, Key Named to Pac-10 All-Academic Teams
Nov. 18, 2004
BERKELEY, Calif. - California redshirt freshman midfielder Jenny Wendell was named to the first team Pac-10 All-Academic team for women's soccer, while sophomore goalkeeper Anna Key received second team recognition. Nine Golden Bears earned honorable mention honors.
Wendell, who boasts a 3.93 GPA, is the first Cal player to be chosen to the first team since Brittany Kirk and Sani Post achieved that distinction in 2002. This marks the first Pac-10 academic honors for Wendell and Key, as athletes must be in at least their second year at a conference school, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be either a starter or significant contributor to be eligible for the award.
The nine honorable mention picks for Cal were: juniors Dania Cabello, Liz Eisenberg, Tracy Hamm, Sierra Schlesigner and Ashley Sulprizio and sophomores Nadia Al-Lami, Alivia Mazura, Katie Ratican and Emily Ward.
Schlesinger received second team honors last season, while Cabello, Hamm and Eisenberg all garnered honorable mention as sophomores.
