Women Fall To Arizona, Men Battling Arizona, ASU

The No. 5 Arizona women's swimming and diving team defeated No. 12 USC, 186-113, while the No. 2 USC men, No. 6 Wildcat men and No. 19 Arizona State men completed the first day of a two-day meet on Friday (Nov. 19) at the McDonald's Swim Stadium.

Arizona's men's team leads the No. 2 Trojan men, 92-75, halfway through a two-day meet while the USC men are ahead of the Sun Devils, 133-31.

USC junior Ous Mellouli won both the 400y IM and the 500y free while sophomore Michael Hilde won the 1-meter springboard. Mellouli was also second in the 200y breast. Arizona's Lyndon Ferns, swept the 100y free and the 100y fly to lead the Wildcat men.

The Wildcat women won 11 of 16 events, including the first five. Trojan freshman Emily Goetsch won both the 100y and 200y fly events for the Trojans will junior diver Blythe Hartley swept the diving springboard events. Senior co-captain Joanna Fargus also won the 200y back. Emily Mason won both the 500y and 1000y free for the Wildcats, Erin Sieper won both the 100y and 200y breaststroke (edging sister and Trojan Kristina Sieper both times) while Arizona teammate Jenna Gresdal won the 50y free and the 100y back. Arizona, like the men, also swept the relays.

USC's women's team hosts No. 19 ASU on Saturday while the three men's teams conclude competition in the two-day affair. Events begin at 1 p.m.
