Volleyball Drops Match With USC, 3-0

LOS ANGELES - Senior outside hitter Allison Lawrence led the Beavers with a match-high 14 kills, but Oregon State dropped a 30-28, 30-25, 30-16 decision to No. 6 ranked USC on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

The loss drops OSU to 10-16 on the season and 4-13 in Pacific-10 Conference action, while the Women of Troy improved to 18-4 overall and 13-3 in conference play.

'We played a really good first two games,' said OSU head coach Nancy Somera. 'Overall, we played hard and I'm pleased with our competitive effort.'

The Beavers hit .311 in the closely contested first game, but USC hit a match-high .356.

Lawrence upped her career kills total to 1,238 and reached double figures in kills for the 21st time in 26 matches this season.

Junior setter Desma Stovall reached double figures in digs for a fourth straight match, finishing the night with 11, while freshman Nina Baltimore led the squad with 13.

Candelas Bibiana led USC with 10 kills.

'I'm looking forward to a couple of good matches next week,' said Somera.

OSU closes out the Pac-10 skein with a 5 p.m. match against Oregon on Friday. Following the contest, Portland will battle Portland State. The winners/losers will face each other on Saturday.
