Stanford Tops Pac-10 With 25 Named to Football All-Academic Team

Junior linebacker Kevin Schimmelmann today was named First-Team Academic All-Pac-10 for the third straight season and Stanford led the conference with 25 players earning All-Academic honors. The Cardinal had six players named to the first-team, eight to the second-team and 11 were named honorable mention.

Schimmelmann, a political science major, was the team's leading tackler before an injury forced him to miss the final two games of the year. He wound up with 58 total tackles, four pass break ups, three tackles for loss and one quarterback sack.

Also earning First-Team Academic All-Pac-10 honors were junior Kris Bonifas, senior Greg Camarillo, sophomore Evan Moore, sophomore Bryan Bentrott and junior Babatunde Oshinowo, who was recognized for the second straight season.

Second-Team honors went to seniors Leigh Torrence, David Bergeron and Will Svitek, sophomores Josiah Vinson,, Nick Frank, Matt McClernan and Mike Silva and redshirt freshman Brent Newhouse.

Earning honorable mention recognition were Emmanuel Awofadeju, Mikal Brewer, Preston Clover, Jon Cochran, Patrick Danahy, David Long, Amir Malayery, Kyle Matter, Tim Mattran, Michael Sgroi and Timi Wusu.
