ALLIE GRIFFIN NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-BIG 12, ASHLEY NU'U HONORABLE MENTION

 Junior Allie Griffin was a first-team selection and sophomore Ashley Nu'u earned honorable mention to the 2004 All-Big 12 Conference Volleyball Team the league office announced on Sunday.

 
Griffin, a 6-0 right side hitter from Baton Rouge, La., leads Colorado in kills with 406, ranking 15th on the Buffs' single-season list. She also showed her versatility by ranking second on the team in digs and third in blocks during the regular season. Griffin was fifth in the Big 12 in kills (4.27 kpg) heading into the last week of the conference season and is the Buff's active career leader in blocks with 184.

 
Griffin
's honor keeps Colorado's streak alive of at least one first team pick on every All-Big 12 volleyball team since the conference began in 1996. The Buffs also had at least one first team pick on the last eight All-Big 8 teams from 1988-95.

 
Nu'u, a 5-10 setter from Aurora, Colo., ranked fourth in the Big 12 in assists with a week to go in the regular season. She is sixth on Colorado's all-time assists list 1,417 and has 1,095 assists on the season, 13th on CU's single-season charts. Nu'u is hitting .346, tops among Buffs with 200 or more attacks, and is averaging 1.51 digs and 0.66 blocks per game.

 
Colorado, 14-13 overall, will open NCAA Tournament play on Thursday, Dec. 2, against top-ranked Hawai'i at 5 p.m. MST, at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo.
