Cal-BYU Postgame Quotes

Nov. 27, 2004

Recap | Box Score

BYU Head Coach Steve Cleveland:

'This ball game was determined in the first 20 minutes. We didn't match their aggression level tonight. In the second half, there was more of a sense of urgency. We did better on the boards, but we lost the game on offensive rebounds.'

'We need to play the full 40 minutes. Our team needs to learn that. We need to be ready to compete at the very beginning of ball games.'

'In the first half, we didn't guard them like we could have. We needed to counteract that with our shooting, but we didn't do that either. In the second half, we competed and tried to win the game. We have a lot of guys who haven't been there before.'

BYU guard Terry Nashif

'They came out in the first half and took it to us. They came ready to play. I'm proud of our guys because we came back and didn't just lay down and die. We fought until the end and didn't give up.'

'We didn't quite get it done but we need to start getting it done. Hopefully we'll see more of the team that showed up in the second half and hopefully more of our shots will go on.'

'We rebounded more in the second half. They go to the glass and they go hard. There was a huge difference in rebounding tonight.'

'Any loss is tough, especially when it's at home. Being home adds another element to it.'

California Head Coach Ben Braun:

'I'm really proud of our group. We came under some great challenges, but they came in and played well.'

'We have a huge amount of respect for BYU. It's not hard to realize what type of program they're running here. We saw this as a challenge and a great opportunity. We held them to 27 percent shooting in the first half, something that doesn't happen here very much.'
