BOULDER
 - Colorado has advanced to the 2004 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championships as the NCAA committee announced the field of 64 today.

Colorado (14-13) will face top-ranked and undefeated Hawai'i (28-0) on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 5 p.m. at Moby Arena on the campus of Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Colorado State (26-3) and Purdue (16-14) will constitute the other first round match up at Moby Arena. The winner of the four-team bracket will advance to the regional tournament in Green Bay, Wis., scheduled for Dec. 10-11.

Hawai'i is the No. 3 overall seed in the tournament trailing only No. 1 Nebraska and No. 2 Penn State. Colorado is venturing into familiar NCAA territory as the Buffs have been placed in first and second round matches at Colorado State for the third time since 2000.

The Buffaloes were one of seven teams from the Big 12 Conference to advance to the tournament, tying the Big Ten for the most in the nation. CU finished tied with Kansas for sixth place in the league standings at 9-11.

"It has been an up and down year for sure," CU head coach Pi'i Aiu said. "I think our selection is in recognition of the good work we did early in the year. Now it is a clean slate, we're excited, and we're going to fight and work hard."

The Buffaloes will be making their 14th overall NCAA Tournament appearance and the 13th in the past 14 seasons which puts them in some elite company. Colorado is one of only 14 teams to qualify for at least 13 NCAA Tournaments since 1991.
