Nov. 29, 2004

BERKELEY, Calif. - Track and Field News has ranked Cal's men's freshman class as the top recruiting class in the country, ahead of Georgia, Texas, Florida State, and South Carolina, which rounded out the Top 5. The self-proclaimed 'bible of the sport' ranked the Golden Bear women as the No. 6 recruiting class in the nation. According to Track & Field News' Dan Lilot, '(Cal head coach) Chris Huffins was a world-class all-arounder in his competitive days and his second recruiting class in Berkeley draws from all across the event spectrum.'

The men's freshmen class is led by three High School All-Americans: Nate Rolfe (hammer throw and discus), Alex McClary (800 meters), and Ed Wright (high jump). Wright also earned Verizon Junior All-American accolades by USATF. The women's class boasts three High School All-Americans, as well: Missy Faubus (shot and hammer), Chanda Picott (4x100m relay, 4x200m relay), and Katie Morgan (pole vault). Faubus was a Verizon Junior All-American also.
