Beavers Will Make Second Trip to the Insight Bowl

Corvallis, Ore. - The Oregon State University football program has accepted an invitation to play in the 16th annual Insight Bowl. The game, which will air on ESPN, will be played Tues., Dec. 28 at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix at 6:30 p.m. PST.
The 6-5 Beavers, who finished tied for third in the Pac-10 Conference with Arizona State, will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Notre Dame also concluded the regular season with an overall record of 6-5.
'We're excited about the opportunity to face a very good football team with such a storied history,' OSU head coach Mike Riley said. 'This match-up has a chance to be one of the better games during the bowl season.'
This is the second appearance for Oregon State in the Insight Bowl. The Beavers fell to Pittsburgh 38-13 in the 2002 game. This will be the program's fifth bowl in six years having also played recently in the Fiesta, Insight, Las Vegas and O'ahu Bowls.
'We have enjoyed are two previous visits to the Phoenix area for bowl games and we are looking forward to another enjoyable experience,' Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis said. 'I know our team is excited about playing in a respected bowl and against an opponent with a tremendous reputation.'
The game will be a rematch of the 2001 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl when Oregon State concluded what was arguably its best season ever with a 41-9 victory over Notre Dame. Several current Beavers were on the roster (redshirted) for the Fiesta Bowl, and they include projected 2004 bowl starters Matt Brock (C), George Gillett (WR), Mitch Meeuwsen (FS), Doug Nienhuis (OT), Jonathan Pollard (LB) and Dwight Wright (RB).
