Dec. 7, 2004
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Kylan Loney had five 3s among her 23 points, and Arizona State used 24 turnovers by 11th-ranked Georgia to win 67-57 Tuesday night.
The Sun Devils (7-1) scored 30 points off the turnovers. That negated 59-percent shooting by the Lady Dogs (5-3), who got 16 points from Tasha Humphrey.
Georgia held a 26-25 halftime lead, but Arizona State had a spurt over an 8-minute stretch of the second half to build a 52-38 edge with 9:56 to play. Emily Westerberg scored six of her 10 points during the stretch.
Baskets by Humphrey and Megan Darrah on in-bounds plays closed the deficit to 61-53 with 5:19 to play. But a 3-pointer by Betsy Boardman ended that momentum with 4:07 remaining, and the teams combined for just one basket over the last four minutes.
Cori Chambers added 13 points for Georgia.
Georgia's was up 24-13 before Arizona State dominated the final five minutes of the first half with a 12-2 run. Boardman's 3-pointer ended a scoring drought of more than five minutes by the Sun Devils.
Loney made a layup with two seconds to play in the half to cut the deficit to a point at the break.
