CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State gymnastics team took the floor at Gill Coliseum for the first time this season Friday night. The Black and Orange Exhibition gave fans a sneak peek at the team before the regular season begins in three weeks.
The exhibition was a milestone of sorts as nine freshmen, were introduced to the home crowd, with six of them performing on at least one event.
'It is always a great learning experience for the freshmen to get in front of the home crowd,' said head coach Tanya Chaplin. 'No matter what we do in the gym we cannot create the same atmosphere.'
Fifth-year seniors Daylee Ingalls and Lindsay Nelson also returned to action after missing all of last season due to injury.'I was very proud of Lindsay and Daylee coming back tonight and having solid performances on all of the events they competed in,' said Chaplin.
Junior Angela Morales was the top finisher on vault and tied for honors on the balance beam with sophomore Chelsea Plourde. Senior Thérèse Videan matched that effort by notching the top score on the floor exercise and tying for the top score on the uneven parallel bars with Nelson.
'There were some really good performances, but there is still a lot of work to do,' said associate head coach Michael Chaplin.
