Dec. 20, 2004

Corvallis, Ore. - William Vea (VAY - like way - uh) of Los Angeles Harbor College in Wilmington, Calif., has signed a national letter of intent to play football at Oregon State University, Beaver head coach Mike Riley announced Monday.

Vea is a 6-2, 280-pound defensive lineman. He was a unanimous Western States First Team Southern Division All-Conference selection last season for the co-division champions. Vea was named the conference's defensive player of the week for Oct. 5 by jcfootball.com after making 13 tackles, including three for loss.

Vea played as a prep at Hawthorne High School for three seasons and was a teammate of future Beaver Eric Moala. Moala, a linebacker, was recently admitted to OSU for winter term. Vea is expected to enter OSU for spring term in March.

Vea joins previously announced mid-year junior college transfers quarterback Matt Moore of the College of Canyons and tight end Jason Vandiver from Fullerton College. The mid-year junior college transfer period runs through Jan. 15.
