Dec. 22, 2004

Honolulu (AP) - Gabriel Pruitt scored 16 points and Gregg Guenther added 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench as Southern California held off a furious Indiana State rally to beat the Sycamores 68-64 Tuesday night in the first round of the Rainbow Classic.

Down by 20 at halftime, the Sycamores (5-4) overcame a poor shooting performance in the first half to close to 65-60 on two free throws by Gabriel Moore with 29 seconds remaining.

After a USC (5-3) free throw attempt was waived off because of a lane violation, Eric Gray's 3-point attempt rattled out of the basket with 19 seconds to go, and USC held on by making three free throws down the stretch.

The Sycamores went on a 13-2 run with less than 10 minutes left to close to 60-55 on a basket by Logan Whitman with 3:43 left.

Guenther then hit two free throws and Indiana State missed on its next three possessions, including two 3-point attempts that rattled out of the hoop.

Gray led the Sycamores with 13 points while David Moss added 11.
