BOULDER -- Colorado freshman Jackie McFarland has been named the Big 12 Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season the league office announced on Monday.
McFarland, who shares the honor with Texas A&M's Patrice Reado, was cited for her performance during games from Dec. 20-Jan 2. She also earned the award on Dec. 6.
A 6-foot-3 forward from Derby, Kan., McFarland averaged 10.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and connected on 68.4 percent of her field goals (13-of-19) in three games played over the holiday break. McFarland had 16 points on a career-best 8-of-13 shooting against Washington, which included the game-winning layup with under two seconds left in overtime. McFarland made all three of her shots from the field and had five rebounds against Northern Colorado. She then recorded her second career double-double by scoring 10 points and recording a career-high 11 rebounds against Manhattan while adding four assists, two blocks and two steals.
Colorado players have been a popular choice in the Big 12 Rookie of the Week voting this season. The Buffaloes have been represented in three of the six awards, as freshman center Kara Richards was honored in the first week of the season.
Colorado, 7-4 overall, opens its conference schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 5, as they play at Nebraska with a tip-off time scheduled for 6:05 p.m. MST on Fox Sports Net-Rocky Mountain.
