Clemson Edges Bruins, 4-3 at Team Indoors
Feb. 5, 2005
Madison, Wisc. - The No. 3-seeded UCLA women's tennis team nearly pulled off the victory over No. 2 Clemson on Saturday, falling to the Tigers, 4-3 in a consolation match at the 2005 USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the University of Wisconsin.
With the score tied at 3-3, the clinching match came down to court No. 4, where UCLA freshmen Tracy Lin and Clemson's Alix Lacelarie were in a three-set battle. After Lin took the first set in a tiebreaker, Lacelarie came back to win the next two sets, winning 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-4.
Saturday marked the first time this season that UCLA (4-2) failed to claim the doubles point, as the Bruins dropped matches on all three courts.
UCLA's three points on the day were posted in singles by Laura Gordon, Alex McGoodwin and Elizabeth Lumpkin. Lumpkin turned in the most impressive performance, losing just two games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Carol Salge at the No. 6 position.
UCLA returns to action a week from today, hosting Fresno State at the LATC beginning at Noon.
