Women Of Troy Tied For Ninth After First Round Of Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge

The USC women's golf team shot a 23-over 307 on Monday to move into a tie for ninth after 18 holes of the 2005 Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge held at Palos Verdes Country Club.
UCLA leads the team race at 289, followed by Duke (293), Pepperdine (296) and Washington and Oklahoma State (each with 297).
Junior Irene Cho paced the Women of Troy in the first round, shooting a 3-over 74 to tied for 11th with seven other golfers.
Cho is six strokes back of Duke's Brittany Lang, who is atop the leaderboard after opening with a 68.
Juniors Tanya Dergal and Seiko Onoue are not far behind Cho after shooting a 76 to stand tied for 29th. Freshman Paola Moreno shot 77 in her first round as a Trojan and is tied for 41st. Dewi-Claire Schreefel--another freshman making her debut--shot 80 and is tied for 64th. Freshman Jackie Desmond rounds out the Women of Troy squad. She shot 82 to tie for 71st.
The Regional Challenge returns to action with Tuesday's second round.
