No. 6 Cardinal Blank DePaul 16-0 At Stanford Invitational

Stanford, Calif. - Junior centerfielder Catalina Morris went 2-for-4 with four RBI as the sixth-ranked Stanford softball team shutout DePaul, 18-0, in five innings at the Stanford Invitational at Smith Family Stadium this afternoon. The Cardinal improve to 4-1 on the season while the Blue Demons fall to 4-5.

All the Stanford starters recorded at least one hit for the game while three Cardinal batters hit homeruns.

Freshman Michelle Smith had a 3-for-3 day at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. Shortstop Lauren Lappin went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while teammate catcher Leah Nelson picked up two hits, three runs and two RBI. Freshman Becky McCullough also added two hits to the Stanford effort. Anna Beardman had three RBI on the afternoon as well.

Laura Severson (3-1) picked up the win in the circle, pitching three scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Freshman Lauren Nydam closed out the game with two hitless innings.

Tracie Adix (3-1) took the loss for DePaul, allowing 18 runs on 19 hits over five innings of work.

Stanford is back in action against Kentucky this afternoon and will take on Long Beach State and Cal Poly tomorrow to close out tournament play.
