Postgame Quotes From OSU at ASU
Feb. 17, 2005
ASU Head Coach Rob Evans
On tonight's game:
I thought our kids did a great job defensively, especially in the first half, Oregon State is a pretty good offensive ball club, they are difficult to guard especially off the dribble, we basically took them off of everything they wanted to do, we were pretty sound, on defense we took some good charges, Serge took some big charges, we rebounded the basketball and in the end we our offense execution late game situation was good, I was proud of the guys stepping up making free throw line, Jason 5 out of 6 tonight really did a good job. We did put them away, we won by two. That is putting people away. A two-point win is like a rout to me.
Bryson was really aggressive, we tried to make him more aggressive, he was loose and relaxed and really looked to get his offense going, any time he has taken good shots he has been in double figures,
On upcoming game against Oregon:
I worry about my team not anyone else's team, we have to make sure we execute. This league is tough, tough to win on the road and tough to win at home. I think everybody has found that out.
On Nick DeWitz:
We felt like if we put a smaller guy on him, we could contain him. I thought our guys did a good job. We started with Jason Braxton on him.
Oregon State Head Coach Jay John
On tonight's game:
'You can't dig such a big hole. When you do that, your margin of error in the second half becomes so razor thin that everything has to go your way, and that is not the reality of life. That's it, we dug ourselves a hole, but at the end of the day we didn't get done what we needed to do. I thought Jason Braxton had a great game for ASU. I thought he ran his team extremely well. I guess you would expect that from a senior. He did a great job handling the ball and doing some things, hitting some free throws, and defending. He did a nice job defending [Nick] DeWitz to start the game. That kind of set a decent tone for them.'
'I don't think there is any question about that. They got big guys and they kept coming. They did a good job. We are small, and we needed to play smaller to be effective, and you can all look through the sheets and see the fact defensively we didn't rebound.'
On halftime adjustments:
'In the second half we completely committed to ball screens. At the same time we had more patience. The first half, we missed a lot of easy shots, [Nick] DeWitz misses a dunk, David [Lucas] misses a couple lay-ups. You know David [Lucas] at the shooting percentage he has, he isn't going to miss a lot of shots. He was 8-15, but he was probably 0-4 before he started [making shots]. I do think that we lost our composure offensively and kind of helped ASU out. Certainly Bryson Kruegers first half, offensively, was off the charts.
