No. 17 California Falls to No. 12 USC, 5-2

Berkeley - The No. 17 California women's tennis team was defeated by No. 12 USC, 5-2. With the loss, the Golden Bears' record falls to 4-2 overall (0-2 Pac-10) while the Trojans remain undefeated at 6-0.

The match began with the Trojans picking up the doubles point, sweeping all three doubles matches.

In singles play, Cal came away with two victories. Freshman Suzi Babos, currently ranked No. 7 in the country, came out ahead in a thrilling match on court one, defeating No. 9 Nicole Leimbach, 7-6; 1-6 (10-8). The victory was Babos' 21st on the year, and improves her dual record to 5-1. Junior co-captain Jessica Shu captured the Bears other victory, defeating Judy DeVera, 6-2; 6-3, on court six. Shu remains a perfect 6-0 in dual meets from the No. 6 position.

The Bears will play the UCLA Bruins Saturday, Feb. 26 at 12:00 noon at the Hellman Tennis Center.
