Woods Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

BERKELEY - California junior catcher Haley Woods was named Pac-10 Player of the Week Tuesday after batting .303 (10-for-23) with 12 RBIs, four home runs and a pair of doubles in the Bears' 7-0 sweep at the Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament in Honolulu, March 3-6.
Woods homered in Cal's victories against Portland State (8-0) and Delaware State (12-1). The Burlingame, Calif., native's big outbursts came in wins against Delaware (7-1), where she went 3-for-4 with a double, homer and three RBIs, and against Mount St. Mary's (12-0), when she went 4-for-4 with a double, homer and five RBIs.
In 2005, Woods leads Cal in home runs (6), doubles (5), RBIs (27), total bases (45), slugging percentage (.726) and at-bats (62).
This is Woods' first career Pac-10 Player of the Week award as well as the first for a Cal player in 2005.
The No. 2 Bears (18-1) return to action against Santa Clara (4 p.m.) and Princeton (6 p.m.) on Friday at the National Invitational Tournament in Sunnyvale, Calif.
