Trojans Compete In Ben Brown Invitational

March 12, 2005 - Fullerton, Calif. - The USC track and field team sent a partial squad to Fullerton on Saturday (March 12) to compete in the Bennie Brown Invitational. Juniors Virginia Powell and Jesse Williams traveled to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championship. Powell became the first women in school history to win a short hurdle event with her 7.97 run on Friday and Williams soared 7-5 to become the first Trojan everm to win a high jump title.

In Fullerton, sophomore Julia Rozenfeld won the hammer throw competition while setting a personal record with a 203-1 throw. Her previous record was 201-2 and she sits 4th on the USC all-time hammer throw chart.

Sophomore Kevin Swartz also improved his personal record by nearly ten feet with a 167-5 throw Saturday. Junior Noah Bryant placed second in the hammer competition with a 190-10 throw.

For the runners, senior Gina Clayton ran a solid 800 meters at 2:10.49. She finished 3rd in the competition.

The entire Trojan team will compete in the Willie Williams Classis on Friday (March 18) and Saturday (March 19) in Tucson, Ariz.
