No. 3 Stanford Defeats Utah 6-0 At Round Robin Tourney

Stanford, Calif. - After a 45 minute rain delay, the third-ranked Stanford softball team beat Utah, 6-0, this afternoon to close out play at the Stanford Round Robin tournament. The Cardinal improve to 19-3 overall while the Utes fall to 9-14.

The got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Lauren Lappin hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield, scoring Catalina Morris, who had tripled to open the inning.

In the bottom of the second Meghan Sickler hit a solo homerun (her second of the season) to leftfield to put the Cardinal up 2-0.

With Tricia Aggabao on first, freshman Erin Howe hit a two-run shot to dead center in the bottom of the fifth inning. Anna Beardman then singled. Catalina Morris hit her second triple of the game to score Beardman. Morris came home on a wild pitch to make the score, 6-0.

Freshman Becky McCullough (4-0) picked up the win for Stanford, allowing only one hit over six innings of work with eight strikeouts. Lindsie Nielsen (3-7) took the loss for Utah, allowing six runs on eight hits over four innings.

Erin Howe went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and two RBI. Catalina Morris had a 2-for-4 effort with two runs scored and an RBI. Meghan Sickler added a hit, a run and an RBI.

Jackie Wong picked up the lone hit for Utah.
