March 22, 2005

Junction City, OR - The fourth-ranked Washington women's golf team finished seventh place at Oregon's Duck Invitational at Shadow Hills Country Club. The Huskies never recovered from a poor start in the tournament that saw very few players shoot under par.

Washington completed the 54-hole event at 938 including a final-round score of 313. Washington shot 317 in the first round and 308 during the second round. California edged out Oregon for the team title. The Golden Bears finished one stroke better than the Ducks at 908.

Three-time defending individual champion Kim Welch of Washington State fell a stroke short in her bid to win an unprecedented fourth Duck Invitational title. Welch went into the final round with a one-stroke lead and had a 76 Tuesday to fall back to second. Long Beach State's Kay Hoey beat Welch by one stroke at 218. Hoey shot 73 during her final round.

Washington was led by freshman Kim Shin who was 11th overall at 229. Paige Mackenzie was 32nd at 236 while Sung Ea Lee was 38th at 237. Ashley Bickerton was 52nd at 243 while Amber Prange and Courtney McCracken placed one stroke behind her in 53rd place.
