No. 24 California Defeats No. 25 Oregon, 4-3

Berkeley - The No. 24 California women's tennis team defeated No. 25 Oregon, 4-3, thanks to a strong showing from the Golden Bears' freshmen players. With the win, Cal improve to 11-3 overall, 1-1 Pac-10.

Cal dropped the doubles point, but did come away with one victory on court two. Freshman Stephanie Kusano and junior Jessica Shu edged Anna Powaska and Dominika Dieskova, 8-6.

Cal recovered from the dropped doubles point, winning four of six matches in singles play. Freshman No. 4 Suzi Babos improved to 27-4 on the season, defeating Daria Panova on court one, 6-4, 6-3. Fellow freshman Marion Ravelojaona was victorious on court two, picking up the win over Powaska in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Cristina Visico tallied a win on court six, defeating Anna Leksinska, 6-4, 6-0.

The victory was clinched on court two, where Kusano bounced back strong after dropping the second set to Dieskova, winning 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.

The Bears will travel to Palo Alto Wednesday, March 30 to take on No. 1 Stanford.
