No. 5 Cardinal Shutout St. Mary's 7-0 At Stanford Tournament

Stanford, Calif. - Senior Michelle Thiry went 2-for-2 at the plate with a homerun to lead the fifth-ranked Stanford softball team to a 7-0 shutout over St. Mary's College tonight at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improve to 21-3 on the year while the Gaels fall to 5-20.

Stanford got on the board first when Lauren Lappin scored on a double by Michelle Smith in the top of the first.

The Cardinal got another run in the second when Anna Beardman scored on a fielder's choice by Elizabeth Bendig.

With two outs in the top third, Anna Beardman hit a line drive down the leftfield line to score Tricia Aggabio from third.

Michelle Thiry got things started in the sixth with a solo shot to leftfield. After Heather Shook drew a walk, Catalina Morris doubled to leftcenter to score Shook. With two outs and Morris on third, Lindsay Key hit her first homerun of the season to make the score, 7-0.

Laura Severson (11-2) picked up her second win of the day in the circle pitching four shutout innings with one strikeout. Megan Galloway took the loss for St. Mary's, allowing three runs on four hits over five innings of work.

Lindsay Key went 1-for-1 with two RBI while teammate Lauren Lappin went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

The Cardinal are back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Northwestern and again at 3 p.m. versus Illinois.
