Harrison, Bienemann, Collins Score TDs

PULLMAN, Wash. -- - Washington State's offensive line caught the eye of Cougar head coach Bill Doba during Saturday's first scrimmage of spring practice.
'I've been impressed with the line's assignment play, picking up blitzes and the protection,' Doba said after watching his club Saturday. 'For this early in the season they've been pretty good.'
One player Doba singled out was Sean O'Connor, a red-shirt sophomore. 'On the offensive line O'Connor is starting to come around at guard,' he commented.
The third-year Cougar head coach also seemed pleased with the play of his defensive tackles and with quarterback Josh Swogger, although the latter has only participated in non-contact practice sessions. Swogger is still recovering from a broken foot suffered last fall.
'Josh Swogger in practice looks like he's improved,' Doba said. 'After a couple of practices it looked like he knocked the rust off today. Aaron Johnson looked good and so did (Pitoitua) Ropati on the defensive line', added the Cougar coach.
Alex Brink handled the majority of the quarterback duties and threw one scoring pass to Troy Bienemann from six yards out. Jerome Harrison carried nine times for 49 yards and hit paydirt from 20 yards out for the first score of the scrimmage.
'We ran Harrison a few times and said we've seen enough of him,' said Doba of the veteran senior starter.
Brink finished the scrimmage hitting 19 of his 28 passes for 134 yards. Gary Rogers connected on six of 15 attempts for 51 yards and newcomer Cole Morgan completed one of his six passes for seven yards.
Jason Hill, Marty Martin and Troy Bienemann were the favorite receivers for the Cougar quarterbacks. Hill caught seven passes for 49 yards, Martin six for 31 and Bienemann four for 40, including one touchdown.
'I thought it went really well for the first scrimmage,' Doba assessed. 'The first series wasn't the best, but after that we didn't fumble. I thought both sides showed some good signs, but obviously we also need a lot of work,' he concluded.
