No. 5 Cardinal Blanks UNLV 3-0 At Stanford Tournament

Stanford, Calif. - Freshman hurler Becky McCullough threw a complete game shutout as the No. 5 Stanford softball team defeated UNLV, 3-0, in the final game of the Stanford Tournament at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium this afternoon. The Cardinal improve to 23-4 overall while the Rebels drop to 23-12 overall.

Catalina Morris led off the bottom of the third inning with a bloop single to rightfield. Lauren Lappin followed with a bunt single to put runners on first and second. Michelle Smith singled down the leftfield line to score Morris and give Stanford the 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Anna Beardman got things started when she reached base on a bunt single. Morris then tripled to right centerfield to score Beardman. A sacrifice fly by Smith scored Beardman put Cardinal up 3-0.

Third baseman Michelle Smith went 1-for-2 with two RBI for Stanford while Catalina Morris had a 2-for-3 day at the plate with two runs scored and and RBI.

Becky McCullough improves to 6-0 on the year with her win today as she scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Jacque Kerrigan (15-11) took the loss for UNLV, allowing three runs on eight hits over six innings.

The Cardinal are back in action on Monday evening for a doubleheader against Fresno State in Fresno at 6 p.m.
