Final Round Of Western Intercollegiate Rained Out; OSU Ties For 12th

March 29, 2005

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.- - The third and final round of the Western Intercollegiate was canceled Tuesday after rain showers moved in near the beginning of the day at the Pasatiempo Golf Course.

Oregon State finished with a two-round total of 601 and tied for 12th place.

'The greens became completely saturated and made them unplayable,' said San Jose State coach and tournament director John Dormann.

'With the accumulation of rain from the last week, there was nowhere for the water to go.'

Because the field completed 36 holes of play on Monday, the tournament qualifies as countable for season records and post-season consideration.

Senior Cameron MacKenzie led the Beavers with a tie for 19th at 7-over 147, including a second-round 1-over 71.

Freshman Jeremiah Oliver also cracked the top 35 after posting a 150, earning him a tie for 34th.

Oregon was declared team champion with a 582, two strokes in front of Kansas and four ahead of UCLA.

Cal Poly's J.J. Scurich took home individual medalist honors and posted the only two-round total under par in the field with a 2-under 138.

Freshman Vincent Johnson tied for 43rd, junior Tim Sundseth placed tied for 58th, and senior Brad Simpson finished in a tie for 78th.

Next up for the Beavers is the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Apr. 4-5 in Santa Barbara, Calif.
