Q&A With Third Baseman Nick Batkoski

March 31, 2005

Earlier today, Nick Batkoski, a third baseman on the Husky Baseball team, took a few moments before practice to speak with gohuskies.com.

This weekend, Batkoski and the Diamond Dawgs, who are 10-0 in home games this season, play host to USC in their first home Pac-10 series of the season. Friday's game will air live on KKNW AM-1150 and Saturday's game will be shown on live television on FSN Northwest.

Here's what Nick, a senior from Federal Way, had to say:

gohuskies.com: You have a home series this weekend against the Trojans. Why do you guys play so well at home?

Batkoski: You always feel more comfortable at home. We play at this ballpark all fall and we have a lot of experience out here with the new turf and everything. We've figured out how to win here. And, especially when the wind blows the right way, we can put a lot of runs up on the board. Also, our pitchers seem to pitch better at home. We all play a little better here.

gohuskies.com: What do you think the team learned from last weekend's series at Arizona?

Batkoski: That was a tough series. We learned that when we play our game, we can compete with anybody. We had a tough loss on Friday, but we came back and played our game on Saturday. You're going to get some breaks and the other team is going to get their's. You just have to take advantage of them when they come.

gohuskies.com: What do you know about USC?

Batkoski: They're a good team. We've had some success against them since I've been here, but the games have all been really competitive. They always have some really good arms in the bullpen and their Friday night starter is really good. It's going to be a pretty good pitching matchup this Friday.

gohuskies.com: Lastly, who do you think is going to win the Final Four?

Batkoski: I think North Carolina will go all the way. I think they're going to beat Illinois.
