No. 17 California Defeats No. 49 Arizona, 6-1

Berkeley - The No. 17 California women's tennis team notched their twelfth win of the season, defeating No. 49 Arizona, 6-1, at the Hellman Tennis Center. With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 12-4 overall, 2-2 Pac-10, while the Wildcats drop to 6-9 overall, 0-4 Pac-10.
Cal opened the match dropping the doubles point, but quickly recovered in singles play, sweeping all six matches. Freshman No. 4 Suzi Babos won her team-high 30th match of the year, defeating Dianne Hollands, 6-1; 6-4. Fellow freshman Stephanie Kusano edged Maja Mlakar on court two, 5-7; 6-2 (10-4).
Sophomore Monica Wiesener won her eighth dual match of the season, defeating Kelly Perry, 6-2; 6-3, on court three. Freshman Marion Ravelojaona was victorious in straight sets as well on court four, beating Stephanie Balzert, 7-5; 7-6.
Junior co-captain Jessica Shu turned in a dominating performance on court five against Camelia Todorova, 6-0; 6-3. Freshman Cristina Visico was victorious on court six in two sets, 6-4; 6-2.
The win was No. 499 for head coach Jan Brogan, who will be aiming for No. 500 when the Bears host Arizona State Saturday, April 2 at 12:00 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Center.
