Cardinal Softball Falls 2-0 To Arizona State

Tempe, Ariz. - The Stanford softball team fell to Arizona State 2-0 in a conference tilt this afternoon at Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The Cardinal drop to 25-7 overall, 1-2 in the Pac-10 while the Sun Devils improve to 26-9, 1-2 in league action.

ASU got on the board first scoring a run in the bottom of the first on an infield single by the first baseman Ashley Werchky.

The Sun Devils picked up another run in the bottom of the third to go up 2-0 on an RBI double by Heidi Knabe.

Senior catcher Leah Nelson went 2-for-2 on the day while Lauren Lappin had a 2-for-3 effort at the plate.

ASU's Katie Burkhart scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings to improve to 10-4 on the year. Junior Laura Severson (11-4) took the loss in the circle, allowing two runs on three hits over two innings of work with four strikeouts.

The Cardinal are back in action next weekend, hosting UCLA and Washington in continued league play at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. They will also face San Jose State in a non-conference game on Wednesday in Stanford.
