Women Of Troy Golf Finishes Seventh In PING/ASU Invitational

The No. 18 Women of Troy golf squad carded a 9-over-par 297 in the final round of play to finish seventh in the PING/ASU Invitational on Sunday at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
Seventh-ranked ASU carded an even-par 288 on Sunday for a three-round total of six-over 870 to tie for first with No. 2 UCLA, but the Sun Devils captured the tournament title by virtue of their fifth individual score (73 for ASU, 80 for UCLA). Pepperdine (888), Arizona (891) and California (894) rounded out the top five teams.
The Trojans finished one stroke behind sixth-place finisher Washington with a three-round total of 896 (+32). Freshman Dewi-Claire Schreefel led the Women of Troy, shooting 73 in the final round to finish tied for 13th with a total score of 222 (+6).
Junior Tanya Dergal finished tied for 34th at 226 (+10) with a final round even par 72. Sophomore Catalina Marin, who led the Trojans after the first two rounds, finished tied for 41st at 227 (+11) and junior Irene Cho tied for 55th after shooting 231 (+15) in three rounds. Marin's classmate Veronica Felibert rounded out the team competitors finished tied for 60th at 232 (+16).
Competing as an individual, freshman Paola Moreno shot 234 (+18) in three rounds of play to finish tied for 66th place.
This was the Trojans final tournament before competing in the Pac-10 Championships on April 18-20 at the Ruby Hill Golf Course in Pleasanton, Calif.
