Huskies Take Two From Simon Fraser

SEATTLE-- The 17th-ranked Washington Huskies (19-11) pounded 15 hits against Simon Fraser (21-7) in double header action this afternoon, cruising to the 5-0 and 11-0 victories. The wins extend Washington¹s unbeaten streak at home vs. non-conference teams to 58-0 all-time. Junior Aimee Minor led all players with three hits and five RBIs, including her 11th home run and second grand slam of the season.


The Huskies scored two runs in the first inning of the opener on two hits. Ashley Charters drew a lead off walk and scored on a single by Kristen Rivera into left field. Minor followed with a single up the middle to score Rivera and give UW the 2-0 lead.

Washington¹s offense was quiet until the sixth inning when the Huskies ripped three hits to score three runs. Rivera walked to open the frame and Sarah Hyatt followed with a single through the left side. Kathy Fiske then doubled to right centerfield, scoring two runs. Lauren Greer hit a two-out single through the right side to score pinch runner Jessica Wilkinson and give Washington the eventual 5-0 victory.

Senior Ashley Boek (12-7) earned the win as she held the Clan to four hits, walked just one and struck out 12 to tie her career-high.

Ashley Lanz took the loss for Simon Fraser as she gave up five runs on five hits, while striking out six in 5.1 innings.

Washington¹s bats came alive in the nightcap as the Huskies pounded nine hits off of three SFU pitchers to score 11 runs and force the mercy-rule after four and a half innings.

UW scored three runs in the first inning with a three-run home run by Hyatt. The blast scored Charters and Dominique Lastrapes who has reached base on a hit-by-pitch and walk. The home run marked the ninth of the season for Hyatt.

Washington tacked on four more runs in the second inning with a grand slam by Minor. The home run, which sailed over the scoreboard in centerfield, was the 11th of the season for Minor and her second grand slam. She also hit a grand slam against DePaul on Mar. 19.

The Huskies scored four more runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach. Torie Coury and Jacki Hansen each had RBI-singles in the game, while Wilkinson drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single through the left side to give Washington the 11-0 victory.

Freshman Caitlin Noble (7-4) earned the win as she held SFU to three hits, while striking out nine.

The Huskies return to Pac-10 action this weekend on the road. Washington faces third-ranked California on Friday at 3 pm, before facing sixth-ranked Stanford on Saturday and Sunday at 1pm.
