No. 6 Bruins Upset by Cal, 4-3

Berkeley - The No. 35 California men's tennis team recovered from dropping a close doubles point to pull off the upset over No. 6 UCLA, 4-3. With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 9-9 overall, 3-3 in the Pac-10, while the loss snaps a seven-match win streak for the Bruins and hands them their first Pac-10 Conference loss, dropping them to 19-3 overall, 4-1 Pac-10.
While the Bears weren't able to secure the doubles point, they did pick up a win on court one, where the No. 21 doubles team of Patrick Briaud and Conor Niland defeated Alberto Francis and Kris Kwinta, 8-2.
The Bears rallied in singles play, notching four wins to take the match. No. 16 Conor Niland turned in a dominant performance on court one, upsetting No. 7 Luben Pampoulov, 6-3; 6-3.
Senior captain Patrick Briaud picked up his 16th singles victory of the year, defeating Kris Kwinta in straight sets, 6-4; 6-4.
Sophomore Daniel Sebescen recovered from dropping the first set to Chris Lam, winning his ninth dual match this season, 3-6; 6-0; 6-2
Freshman Ken Nakahara was victorious in straight sets on court six, where he defeated Philip Gruendler, 6-1; 6-4.
UCLA travels to Stanford tomorrow for a 1:00 p.m. match with the Cardinal.
