The No.13 Bruins Finish The Last Day Of Comeptition With A Victory
April 10, 2005
April 10, 2005 -- The Bruins repeated their strong performance from yesterday at the Windermere Crew Classic at Redwood Shores, CA. The Bruins finished the weekend with a overall record of 7-2, with strong performances from all three squads.
The varsity eight repeated their victory over Texas from the San Diego Crew Classic by finishing 10.4 seconds ahead. The second varsity eight also overcame the Longhorns, avenging their loss to them in the grand final at the San Diego Crew Classic, coming in with a 3.3 second advantage.
The novice eight completed the weekend by defeating Clemson easily with a 8.9 second advantage over the Tigers.
In reviewing the results of the weekend, Head Coach Amy Fuller Kearney said, 'Against Clemson, the varsity eight went out to win, not to push their potential, so we came away with a lot more work to do.'
'Facing Virginia in the afternoon was a great opportunity to step up the level. The varsity eight had a much better first and second 500m, but they still need to work on the second half of their race. The momentum carried over to Sunday's race against Texas for both the varsity and second varsity eight. Both squads had great performances against Texas and showed great improvements in the last 1000m. The second varsity beat a team who had defeated them the weekend before in the San Diego Crew Classic, and the varsity eight was able to push to an impressive 10 second margin over the Longhorns.'
'The novice eight team had a great weekend, they worked hard to beat Washington, California and Clemson, and we look forward to seeing their contribution to the varsity squad in the future.'
Coming Up - The Bruins are looking forward to competing against Loyola Marymount, San Diego State, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine when they host the 30th annual Miller Cup at Marina Rey this upcoming weekend, April 16th. Last year, the Bruins and Loyola Marymount finished in a dead heat, with the cup going to both teams due to the tie.
