Spring Season In Full Swing For UW Men's Soccer

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Washington men's soccer is in the midst of its spring season with four more matches remaining on the docket in April. The Huskies have compiled an overall record of 3-2-4 thus far, registering victories over Western Washington, Trinity Western and the UW Alumni.

Up next, Washington will take on Seattle University on Saturday, April 16, at Husky Soccer Field at 10 a.m. The Huskies will then complete a double-header with their city-rivals, facing Seattle Pacific on the Falcons' home pitch, Saturday at 1 p.m. Washington wraps the spring slate with a trip to Portland on Saturday, April 23. UW will face the Portland Pilots, the same team that defeated the Huskies in the first round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament. Washington will also have a second game in Portland that day, with the opponent still yet to be determined.

The Huskies opened the spring season with back-to-back victories over the UW alumni (4-1) and Western Washington (4-0), before suffering a setback to the Seattle Sounders (3-2). The Huskies ended in a 1-1 draw with the University of British Columbia and defeated Trinity Western, 5-0. UW ended in a 1-1 draw with the Sounders in a second meeting, and finished in a scoreless tie with Seattle U. Most recently, the Huskies tied Portland 1-1 and suffered a 2-1 loss to Seattle Pacific last weekend.

Twelve different Huskies have contributed either a goal or an assist in nine matches, with Mike Chabala, Kevin Forrest and Leo Totev tied for the team lead with eight points each. Chabala has a team-high four goals thus far, including two on penalty kicks. Forrest, last year's leading scorer, has three goals and two assists, while Totev also has three goals and two assists.

Washington opens the 2005 season with an exhibition contest against Seattle U. at Husky Soccer Field, Monday, August 22, at 7 p.m. The season officially opens for the Huskies with a match versus Creighton, Friday, Sept. 2, at 4:30 p.m. in Portland.
