Michelle Smith Homers In 3-0 Win Over No. Oregon State

Corvallis, Ore. - Michelle Smith hit her 13th homerun of the season to help the eighth-ranked Stanford softball team to a 3-0 win over No. 10 Oregon State this afternoon. The Cardinal improve to 29-7, 4-2 in Pac-10 play while the Beavers drop to 28-7, 7-1 in league action.

Stanford got things started in the top of the first when shortstop Lauren Lappin singled up the middle with one out on the board. Third baseman Michelle Smith then blasted her 13th homerun of the season to make the score, 2-0.

Smith's 13 homers ties her for third on The Farm for a single season.

In the top of the seventh, Tricia Aggabao singled up the middle. With two outs, Jackie Rinehart tripled to right centerfield, scoring Aggabao.

Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Tricia Aggabao had a 2-for-3 effort on the afternoon with a run scored while Jackie Rinehart went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Becky McCullough (11-1) picked up the win in the circle, scattering three hits over seven scoreless innings of work with two strikeouts. Brianne McGowan (25-3) took the loss allowing three runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts.

Tomorrow the Cardinal are back in action, taking on the Oregon Ducks at 1 p.m. in Eugene.
