Softball Game Vs. Arizona Halted Due To Rain

April 15, 2005

SEATTLE-- Heavy rains led to dangerous field conditions today at Husky Softball Stadium and the game between No. 24 Washington (19-14, 1-5 Pac-10) and No. 2 Arizona (31-4, 5-2 Pac-10) was halted. The game will resume when UW travels to Tucson May 7 and 8. The Wildcats lead 3-0 after four innings.

Arizona scored all three of its runs in the first inning on three hits. Sophomore Caitlin Lowe led off with a double down the left field line and Autumn Champion was hit by a pitch by Husky starter Ashley Boek. Kristie Fox then hit a slow roller up the middle to score Lowe. The Wildcats loaded the bases with a bunt single by Jackie Coburn and Boek plunked Callista Balko to bring in another run.

Freshman Caitlin Noble took over pitching duties and issued a full-count walk to Jennifer Martinez to score another run. She struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

Noble kept the Wildcats in check through the next three innings, giving up just one hit. She struck out eight of 13 batters faced.

UA hurler Alicia Hollowell held the Huskies to two hits over four innings, including singles by Noble and Dominique Lastrapes. She struck out 11 of 14 batters faced.

Washington will host No. 21 Arizona State (26-14, 1-7 Pac-10) Saturday at 2:30pm. The game will air live on FSN Northwest. The Sun Devils lost to UCLA today, 4-0, in Los Angeles.
