Costello Moves Into Nation's Elite on Friday at Mt. SAC Relays

Freshman Alison Costello highlighted the Bruins' Friday night competition at the Mt. SAC Relays as she ran one of the top-10 collegiate times in the 5000m this season (16:29.74). Costello, running in the Invitatioanl section of the 5000m, dropped her lifetime-best by nearly seven seconds (old best, 16:32.69 at Stanford), placing 16th overall. Her time was also a regional qualifier.
Senior Valerie Flores and Olga Aulet-Leon also had an impressive night as both ran regional qualifiers and lifetime-bests in their respective events. Flores finished 10th in the University/Open section of the 5000m (16:49.98), improving her lifetime-best by nearly 15 seconds (old best, 17:14.78). Aulet-Leon, running in the University/Open 1500m (4:26.20), dropped her lifetime-best by over three seconds (old best 4:29.79) to finish 9th in her section and 20th overall.
Freshmen Claire Rethmeier and Monika Rothenburger also competed in the University/Open section of the 5000m on Friday. Rethmeier placed 21st in a time of 17:10.47, while Rothenburger finished 39th in a time of 17:38.02. Sophomore Jenna Timinsky, running in the University/Open 1500m, ran a seasonal-best 4:27.66, placing 13th in her section and 24th overall.
