Women Of Troy Fall To UCLA, 5-2

LOS ANGELES - The fourth-ranked USC women's tennis fell to No. 10 UCLA, 5-2, on Saturday, April 16, in Westwood, Calif. The Trojans' Lindsey Nelson, ranked 13th nationally, defeated 23rd-ranked Riza Zalameda, 6-1, 4-6, (11-9), on court two to run her singles record to 18-1.

With the loss, USC ends the regular season at 16-3 and 7-2 in conference play, while UCLA ends at 15-5, 6-2 and picks up 2.5 points in the Lexus Gauntlet competition.

USC started the match dropping the doubles point from the first and third positions. Nicole Leimbach and Dianne Matias prevented the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory at court No. 2 over Laura Gordon and Alex McGoodwin.

In singles, UCLA took four of the six matches to claim the victory. The Trojans' Dianne Matias picked up the first point for the Women of Troy with her 6-4, 6-1 victory over Tracy Lin at court four. USC's Nelson closed out the match, picking up the other point for the Trojans at court two.

The Women of Troy next head to Ojai, Calif. for the Pac-10 Championships to be held next weekend.
