W-Golf Places Three On Academic Team
BOULDER - University of Colorado women's golf team members sophomore Hannah Hoch, junior Maria Persson-Gulda and senior Allison Rella were named to the 2005 Academic All-Big 12 Team first team the conference office announced Tuesday. The Buffs are three of 37 league wide players named to the annual list with all but six being named to the first team.
An engineering physics major with one of the athletic department's highest grade point averages, Persson-Gulda is making her second appearance on the first team. After making the second team list a year ago, Rella, a sociology major, is making her first appearance on the first team. In her first year of eligibility, Hoch makes the first team list as a finance major.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
Hoch, Persson-Gulda and Rella, as well as teammates Jess Ellis and Jessie Malcolm are preparing for the 2005 Big 12 Conference Championships slated for this Friday through Sunday, April 22-24 at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.
