Alice Barnes Looks for Pair of Pac-10 Titles

April 23, 2005

Ojai, Calif. - Stanford junior Alice Barnes, who is currently ranked No. 22 in the nation, has reached the Pac-10 Individual Championship Finals in singles and doubles for the second-straight year. Barnes defeated teammate Anne Yelsey in the main draw singles semifinal, but will be back on the court with her tomorrow as they play for the Pac-10 Doubles title.

Last season, Barnes fell in the singles championship final, but the United Kingdom-native will have a second chance at the title, as she takes on USC's Nicole Leimbach, in tomorrow's championship. Ninth-ranked Leimbach defeated Theresa Logar in three sets this afternoon to earn her spot in the finals.

In doubles, Barnes and Yelsey posted an 8-0 win over Washington's Dinka Hadzic and Dea Sumantri in the semifinals. The Cardinal duo, who paired up for the first time this season at the conference tournament, will face Arizona's 14th-ranked Dianne Hollands and Maja Mlakar in the Pac-10 doubles final. Last year, Barnes and Erin Burdette captured the Pac-10 doubles title

The final day of competition at Ojai will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m., with the women's singles championship taking place at Libbey Park at 9:30 a.m., followed by the women's doubles championship at 12:30 p.m.
