Greer Home Run Lifts Huskies to 2-1 Win At UCLA

April 23, 2005

WESTWOOD, Calif. - The 23rd-ranked Huskies used a two-run home run by Lauren Greer to lift Washington to the 2-1 victory over No. 10 UCLA this afternoon at Easton Stadium. The win improves Washington to 22-15 (4-6 Pac-10), while the Bruins dip to 24-11 (5-5 Pac-10).

Sarah Hyatt drew a one out walk in the second inning and was replaced by designated player Callie Bergan. Greer then hit her second home run of the season with a blast to left field to put UW on top 2-0.

Freshman hurler Caitlin Noble kept the Bruins off balance through four innings before giving up a lead off home run to Kristen Dedmond in the fifth to right centerfield to cut Washington's lead to 2-1.

UCLA attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh with a lead off double by Dedmond but Noble got the next three batters out with a pop-up, ground out and strikeout to seal the Washington victory.

Noble (10-7) held the Bruins to one run on six hits and struck out eight.

Lisa Dodd (6-5) took the loss for UCLA as she gave up two runs on four hits and walked six in 6.2 innings.

The Huskies fly to Reno tonight and will take on Nevada in a double header Sunday at 1 pm.
