Sam Warburg To Play For Pac-10 Championship On Sunday

Ojai, Calif. - Senior Sam Warburg advanced to the main draw singles final of the Pac-10 Championship in Ojai with a straight set win over Oregon's Sven Swinnen on Saturday. Warburg also teamed with junior KC Corkery to advance to the final of the main draw doubles tournament with a win over UCLA's Kris Kwinta and Alberto Francis in the semifinals.

Warburg, the No. 2 ranked player in the nation and the defending Pac-10 champion, breezed through his semifinal match against the No. 16 ranked Swinnen with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Warburg will meet Washington's No. 10 ranked Alex Vlaski in Sunday's championship match, scheduled for an 11:00 am start. Vlaski advanced to the final with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 win over No. 9 ranked Conor Niland of Cal on Saturday. Warburg will attempt to become the first player to win back-to-back Pac-10 titles since Stanford alum Alex O'Brien won two straight in 1991 and 1992.

In the main doubles draw, Warburg and Corkery registered an 8-4 win over the No. 42 ranked duo of Kwinta and Francis from UCLA in the semifinals. The pairing will meet Washington's No. 15 ranked duo of Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic in the championship match scheduled for 2:00 pm on Sunday.

In Pac-10 Invitational doubles draw action, the duo of sophomores James Wan and Eric McKean had their run cut short in the semifinals, falling to Cal's Lennart Maack and Dean Wallace 8-5.
